The EIP-8105 team is throwing their full support behind LUCID as a Hegotá headliner. (We are keeping EIP-8105 open for feedback and questions, but we are no longer proposing EIP-8105 as a Hegotá headliner.)
We believe the problems of malicious MEV, real-time censorship, and centralization in the Ethereum transaction supply chain are of critical importance and urgency. We urge Ethereum core developers and the client teams to implement an encrypted mempool in Hegotá to meaningfully address these problems as soon as possible.
EIP-8105 and encrypted mempools have been in the works for a long time, and their origins trace back to the original Shutterized Beacon Chain proposal by Shutter and Martin Köppelmann. The current design is building on top of combined efforts with deploying an encrypted mempool to Gnosis Chain and to Ethereum L1’s out-of-protocol transaction supply chain via MEV-Commit, together with Primev.
Over the past few weeks, the EIP-8105 and FOCIL teams have worked together to improve our respective proposals. The two proposals have converged technically. Although a few significant differences still remain and we still see advantages to EIP-8105, we believe LUCID is a robust and well-designed proposal, and we believe LUCID will affect the changes Ethereum so urgently needs. With that in mind, we aim to contribute to LUCID based on our longstanding practical experience of building encrypted mempools.
We understand that some core developers and client teams would like to keep Hegotá focused on FOCIL in order to ensure its delivery and to normalize more frequent hard forks. Although we empathize with this view, we believe FOCIL and LUCID are not merely highly complementary - they are symbiotic. The two proposals should be included together in Hegotá to enhance Ethereum credible neutrality and to create meaningful benefits for both retail and institutional users.
If LUCID is selected as a Hegotá headliner, then we will give our full support to the LUCID team, core developers and client teams. We will work closely with them and other stakeholders to ensure both FOCIL and LUCID are shipped in Hegotá in a timely manner.
